The workshop titled "Expanding the Performative Space: Exploring the Interplay of Live Performance and Video" delves into the profound intersection of contemporary artistic practice, where the digital realm amplifies the performativity of space. This workshop aims to dissect and illuminate the intricate relationship between space, performer, and video, with a particular focus on the seamless transition between live camera feed and pre-recorded visual material.
At its core, this workshop embarks on an intellectual journey that seeks to answer the following questions: How can diverse moving images and visual landscapes be meaningfully interwoven? What happens when live performance and pre-produced video converge and diverge? These inquiries serve as the compass guiding participants through the rich terrain of artistic exploration.
Central to this exploration is the concept of short video narratives, a creative canvas each student is encouraged to develop. These narratives are rooted in the body – the body of the individual student or that of a fellow participant – and the unique spaces within the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) serve as the vibrant backdrop against which these stories unfold.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in hands-on exercises, critical discussions, and collaborative experiments, honing their skills in the art of melding live performance with video. This workshop provided a platform for students to cultivate their artistic voices, expand their creative boundaries, and unravel the mysteries of spatial performativity in the digital age.
