From 3 July to 8 August, the Franco-German travelling exhibition Frugalité Créative - Less is Enough will be on show at the HfG. It deals with the topic of sustainability in architecture and focuses on exemplary projects from France and German-speaking countries. The exhibition calls for an economical, frugal but at the same time cheerful and creative use of our planet's resources.

"The building sector produces around 40 % of waste and greenhouse gas emissions and consumes 60 % of resources at the same time. A radical change is needed. This is what the "Manifesto for a happy and creative frugality in the architecture and planning of urban and rural areas", launched in January 2018 by three French pioneers, advocates. In three years, it has already been signed by almost 12,000 people in 65 countries. This insight is resonating. In May 2019, the Association of German Architects (BDA) published a text entitled "The House of the Earth". The common goal is an architecture that respects natural resources more, transforms what already exists before building something new, values renewable materials and local expertise, favours robust technical solutions and proposes a balance between tradition and modernity. There are already a large number of buildings that can be described as "frugal". The exhibition presents inspiring current examples on both sides of the Rhine: 20 from the highly committed French "Grand Est" region and 15 from the German-speaking region (Baden-Württemberg, Switzerland and Vorarlberg). This Franco-German dialogue invites experts and the general public to participate in the paradigm shift that is taking place." — Dominique Gaugin-Müller

At the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, the exhibition will be expanded to include projects and perspectives from the HfG. The projects are free works by students that were created in seminars, workshops or as diploma projects. There is also a project presentation of the seminar "How to need less", which was led by Viviane Stappmanns.
