JJxH54D Spring Collection 2024 is a collaboration between JJ (Jaya Demmer and Jette Schwabe) and H54D (teenagers from Augsburg-Oberhausen) - it is a performative intervention, rap concert and fashion show, and was presented at the opening of the Brechtfestival 2024 in Brecht's Kraftklub. The performance brought together a number of young actors from the neighbourhood to take over the festival centre.
Starting from questions of belonging, identity and empowerment of young people in an increasingly stigmatised area of Augsburg, the JJxH54D Spring Collection 2024 was developed in workshops with H54D and designed and produced by JJ. The resulting collection is a statement for the neighbourhood, a symbol for its stories and a tribute to all OG 54*ers.
*Hood, home, belonging, safe zone, family, brother/sisterhood, hanging out, routine, clique,..
JJxH54D is part of the Community Arts Lab Augsburg (CALA). This site-specific research project of the Brechtfestival 2024, realised in cooperation with the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe, initiates collaborations between young artists and residents of the Oberhausen district.
The Brechtfestival 2024 was dedicated locally to this largest and most culturally diverse district of Augsburg, which is increasingly stigmatised by the media due to its history of migration and working class background. By engaging with local communities and exploring the neighbourhood as an artistic concept, questions about the production, participation and reception of art were renegotiated.
The project was translated into an installation for the HfG
summer exhibition in 2024 and was awarded the Gunther Schroff Prize.
