Summersemester 2021
Platz der Menschenrechte, Karlsruhe
Supervision: Prof. Thomas Rustemeyer, Alex Römer
Students: Lena Breitmoser, Lara Landbrecht, Lina Determann, Jette Schwabe, Anne Lamprecht, Jannik Lang
Due to the pandemic situation, collaboration and exchanges between teachers and students in the HfG workshops and studios were severely restricted for two semesters. This gave rise to the idea of the Open Campus - to create a place for the HfG in the fresh air that enables people to work, learn and meet. The Platz der Menschenrechte was chosen as the location.
The appropriation of the space, the phased development of the Open Campus, the concept and spatial programme, as well as situational interventions and furnishings were collectively developed, tested and implemented 1:1 in several consecutive workshops. Since then, the Open Campus has been available to the HfG as a new infrastructure in the outdoor space. It is now a place for lectures, exhibitions, open-air cinema, conferences, performances ... The Open Campus is a place that brings the HfG together with the city of Karlsruhe.
