Since the beginning of Covid-19, FaceTime has been my most common form of communication.
While I stayed at home, in my so-called "own space", and other people in theirs, the only way to communicate our feelings was via the internet.
I began to think that personal space is a kind of "box" of emotions. It relives and records the emotions of all the people who enter this space. I marvelled at the infinite capacity of space for emotions.
In this exhibition I have set up the four representative scenes of my life: Eating, Sleeping, Relaxing and Leaving the Apartment. In the left half of the scene, there is a loop of my brother's real condition in China in these four scenes. The right half of the scene is reserved for all visitors. The visitors resonate with the people in the left half in the same scene through the video screen at both ends of the world.
I have also shared my own life with everyone. Although the epidemic prevented me from seeing my family for more than 2 years, I am grateful that there is still the "virtual space" on the internet that allows me to communicate emotionally with them.
Me, you, them, in this world. No single object exists on its own. Just like the exhibition. Every visitor becomes part of the exhibition if they are prepared to enter the right half of each wall. They complete me, complete the whole exhibition and become the best "actors" on the stage.
That's why I also invited a pianist to my exhibition. The emotional interplay of the art was definitely the highlight of the exhibition.
She said: It was a great honour for me that I was actually allowed to take part in the event "They." event. After talking to the curator Jin, the thought that went into it moved me deeply and I immediately thought of improvising in the event. "They." have absolute freedom for the audience and is as intimate as the moments we spent in the event. The whole improvisation also sounded like a journey.
That's why my exhibition is called - They.
