Zwischen_Räume-n" deals with the investigation and atmospheric representation of a "nameless" place in urban space which exists in a permanent "in-between-ness" through indeterminacy and ambivalence.
It is a place without clearly recognizable boundaries or functions. A place that neither corresponds to a norm nor can be assigned to a category and thus appears dysfunctional in its given function. Questions about its genius Loki, its function, its history and its future formed the starting point for the site-specific investigation, analysis and research of the place between Gartenstrasse and Kriegsstrasse in the city of Karlsruhe. This very “non-place” was the starting point for the spatial installation "Zwischen_Räume-n".
In the installation, the existing exhibition architecture is used and rearranged. With the help of a spatial intervention, the spirit of the non-place and the exhibition site are brought together at the exhibition location and result in an atmosphere that builds up through visual and auditory elements.
The spatial installation introduces the recipients into an endless loop of the in-between space in order to make the sense of being lost in an incomprehensible space tangible and to constantly create new spatial collages until the participants themselves become part of the installation.
"Zwischen_Räume-n" attempts to make a place visible, or even to revive it, by exploring, analyzing and capturing its essence. The resulting characterization draws the viewer's attention to the peculiarities of the non-place and reveals its internal dynamics.
The spatial installation aims to take a precise perspective on supposedly ordinary, everyday and unusual places, so that the otherwise incidental perspectives are expanded by a further possibility of perception.
